My first time, trying " Sa Cha 沙茶" savory sauce for their beef and broccoli stir fried noodle. I love the flavor and love it for the price and amount! I will come back here to just eat this. Not typical flavored I had before. " It is made from soybean oil, garlic, shallots, chilies, Chinese brill, and dried shrimp. It is also sometimes sold as "Chinese barbeque sauce", Wiki says.
Quality Taiwanese food at decent prices. Service is top notch and always with a smile. They renovated the place some what but kept the original charm. Give this place a try if you're craving Taiwanese food.
Taipei Cafe is a fantastic Taiwanese restaurant that offers an outstanding dining experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with friendly and attentive service, setting the tone for a wonderful meal. We started with the spicy pig ear appetizer, which was a delightful surprise. The dish was incredibly fragrant and delicious, with a generous portion size that was perfect for sharing. Each bite was packed with flavor, making it a great way to kick off our meal. Next, we tried the Taiwanese beef noodle soup. The noodles were perfectly chewy, and the beef shank chunks were soft and tender, melting in our mouths. The broth was light yet flavorful, making this dish a standout. We also ordered the salt and pepper pork. Initially, I thought it would be bone-in pork chops, but the boneless pork loin exceeded my expectations. The flavor was spot on, and each piece was cooked to perfection. The quiet location in a small plaza added to the charm of Taipei Cafe. It was a relaxing environment, ideal for enjoying a meal without the usual hustle and bustle. Overall, the combination of delicious food, excellent service, and a peaceful setting makes Taipei Cafe a must-visit. I highly recommend it and will definitely be returning for more!
I'm glad to see this place is still open after all these years and especially after the pandemic. Lots of staple dishes are found at Taipei Cafe that can't be found anywhere else. We recently came in for some shaved ice. This is the Taiwanese style, topped with syrup (made from molasses, I think), condensed milk and a choice of 3 toppings. This round, we got grass jelly, peanuts and taro. So satisfying on a particularly hot day. Of course to offset the sugar, we had to order some snacks. Pictured is their Taiwanese burger, a juicy slice of braised pork belly nestled in a bun and topped with cilantro and sugared peanuts. I forgot to take a picture of the "crispy" intestines, which were not crispy at all but we enjoyed the flavor. Service is always fast. Tables are clean. The restaurant is on the same side as Great Wall and it can be a little hard to find the entrance if it is your first time there, but it is manageable.
We have been longtime customers of Taipei Cafe. We've enjoyed their lunches through the years but have not been back until a week ago when we ordered carryout. The oyster pancakes are to die for and have always been so! The other things we have tried in the distant past were all good: Taiwanese burger, fried pork chop, the shredded pork with bamboo shoots.
Had dinner here before a concert at the College. Enjoyed the food! Large portions and fast service. We came early for dinner and it was filling up fast.
Drove from Richmond to load up on Taiwanese eats. Asked Taiwanese in the area and this was the recommendation. Taipei Cafe is very low key. Clean and friendly. It's fairly priced and compared to what you get traditionally each plate is ginormous I guess to fit the American customer demands. I ordered two appetizers, a soup and a desert and it was A LOT! I had the meat pie, pigs liver, and soup with pork. For desert I had the shaved ice. They did a nice job trying to match the flavors. Recommended!
I love the oyster pancake and salt pepper fried fish here! The beef noodle soup is good as well. The soup dumpling skin is too thick so I wouldn't order that again.
Not too many places in the area serving a wide array of Taiwanese food like here. I'm always drawn to the beef noodle soup, a large bowl of the good stuff. I always have enough to bring home for leftovers. The oyster pancake and lu rou fan are both favorites of mine. I took my Taiwanese friend who was visiting from an area that doesn't have any Taiwanese restaurants and she really enjoyed it. Lots of space and seating around the restaurant, though I have been there for dinner service when it was almost filled up! If you don't have a car, don't be afraid of the walk here from the metro! It's totally worth the trek. Plus, it's near Great Wall, Rockville Town Center, and Yi Fang, so make a nice trip out of it.
Delicious Taiwanese style three-cup chicken, as always. Love their gua bao (Taiwanese hamburger). Their salt and pepper fish filet comes in a very larger portion and is presented majestically on an elevated skillet (typically with fire underneath). Sticky rice sausage is alright but I think there may be other appetizer dishes that are more flavorful. Lamb night market style is very good! Came here on a Saturday for dinner; nice and efficient service. They even helped arrange the dishes on our very full table to make every dish more accessible.
